There’s nothing like the smell and flavour of proper roast chicken. Crispy well-seasoned skin and the tasty tender meat underneath make it every bit as good as any roasting joint of beef, lamb or pork – and deserving of a place as the centrepiece of a family meal.
All too often though chicken is now a little-considered commodity; intensively farmed to provide cheap protein at the expense of both animal welfare and flavour. We believe chicken produced like this is ethically unacceptable as well as flavourless. Its been a long search for us to find the right chicken producer – one dedicated to the highest standards of ethical production – and we believe we’ve found them. These birds are ‘truly free range’. They lead longer lives than standard free-range chicken and have year-round access to outside space and well-maintained, naturally ventilated indoor shelter. They are fed a natural cereal-based diet without any antibiotics or hormones as well as being able to forage outdoors for plants and insects. As well as being ethically right we believe this commitment to producing slow-grown high-welfare poultry is immediately noticeable in the flavour. This is chicken as it should be.
